A touch of glamour in Bridgend

Mavis Martin, Anna Chaplain in Bridgend, who is also Mayor’s Chaplain, was keen to share with us a recent event:

'On Friday September 13 the Town Mayor held an open event to raise funds for Macmillan nurses. As the Mayor’s Chaplain I worked with the Town Clerk and her staff who were responsible for all arrangements.

The Town Mayor invited Mr David Emmanuel (Royal Wedding Dress Designer) who is a “Bridgend” boy, to officially open the event. Of course, he was made aware of my “main” role as an Anna Chaplain and left with one of my Anna Chaplaincy cards!

I was also introduced to fashion shop owner Mrs Venetia Steele who was amazed at the work of Anna Chaplaincy and has asked if I would visit her shop regularly as lots of her clients are elderly and very lonely and would benefit from having a chaplain to listen to them!

Meanwhile, children from Oldcastle Primary School locally raised £85 for Macmillan Nurses.  'We had a great time talking about older people in their lives, like their grannies etc.'
