Burns Night fun in Orkney

Writer's picture: Debbie ThrowerDebbie Thrower

Anna Chaplaincy network member Revd Susan Kirkbride wrote to us this week to say how much she was looking forward to ‘a very pleasant jaunt at tea time – the Burns Supper at our local care home.’

Susan who is minister at Orkney’s Peedie Kirk was brushing up her best Welsh Scots’ pronunciation on 25 January. Complete with a kilted piper, residents were treated to the annual piping in of the haggis and the traditional Robbie Burns words to salute the star of the feast.

Fair fa’ your honest, sonsie face,

Great Chieftain o’ the Puddin-race!

‘What fun! I am delighted to be asked actually and pleased our regular worship has now resumed.’

Afterwards, Susan sent us some photos declaring that everyone ‘loved the address to the haggis. Some could almost recite some, long remembered from schooldays onwards.’
