Entries are sought for the 2025 Embracing Age Poetry competition which is on the theme of 'Faith in Ageing' this year. Please spread the word to budding poets everywhere, especially among 'older generations in their churches and care homes' as they are looking for poems composed by anyone aged 50 and over.
Pam Rhodes will be one of the judges again this year and will be featuring the winning poems on her 'Heart and Hymns' show on Premier Radio on Silver Sunday, to celebrate Older Peoples' Day later this year.
All the details are on the website. https://www.embracingage.org.uk/poetry.html The competition is now open and the closing date is May 9, 2025.
Organisers say:
'This competition aims to celebrate the wisdom, resilience, and spiritual depth that often accompany the journey of growing older. In a world that often prioritises youth and novelty, this competition seeks to illuminate the beauty and power of faith as it sustains and enriches individuals in their later years.
We encourage poets to delve into the complexities of ageing, exploring themes of hope, reflection, acceptance, and the sustaining power of faith.'
'We believe that poetry has a unique ability to capture the essence of human experience,' says Sinéad Crosbie, CEO of Embracing Age. 'This competition offers a platform for writers to share their insights and perspectives on faith and ageing, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the lived experiences of older adults.'
A panel of judges - that's Pam Rhodes, Dave Bilbrough and Andrew Pratt - will select the winning entries. As well as the winning poems being read on Pam's Premier Radio Show, shortlisted poems will be published in an anthology to celebrate International Older People's Day.
Embracing Age is a Christian charity working towards a world where older people are valued, connected and full of hope, by combating loneliness, mobilising volunteers, equipping churches and speaking out.
