We warmly welcome Sarah Hutchins who was commissioned as an Anna Chaplain at The Priory in Lancaster on Sunday February 2, 2025. Sarah writes about her journey up to this point:
'I have been a member of Lancaster Priory for more than 10 years and I had been feeling drawn to take the step towards lay ministry for a while when I started on the Authorised Lay Ministry training run by the Diocese of Blackburn.'
'I knew from the start that I wanted to become involved in the Later Life Ministry, and I enjoyed my time doing the Later Life module. During the training, we learnt about Anna Chaplaincy and I felt drawn to look into that further.'
'I undertook the Anna Chaplaincy training and was commissioned at Lancaster Priory on Candlemas. My role, so far, has been based around working with the residents at Nazareth House care home in Lancaster, where we attend on a monthly basis to do a Eucharist service.
I am working to develop relationships with the home so that we are not only going in to support the residents who come to the service, but also to spend time with all the other residents and I am keen to use my Anna Chaplaincy training in this way. My other hope is to work on building bridges between the generations in our church setting, and in other settings.'
'When I was growing up, my grandparents and great-grandparents played big parts in my up-bringing and I strongly believe played a large part in developing the person I am now as an adult.'
'I was lucky to still have a living grandparent until December 2023, when my grandmother passed away the day before her 102nd birthday.'
'I would like to develop ways in which our younger generations can develop relationships with our older generations and learn that they each have a lot to offer to each other, in terms of life experience and skills.'
