Time passing: ageing, memory and nostalgia

Debbie Ducille

This was the title of a recent episode of ‘Start the Week’ on Radio 4 hosted by scientist Adam Rutherford, and ‘as I drove home down the M6,’ says Debbie Ducille, ‘it proved to be a fascinating exploration of ageing, what it means to be mortal, how memory plays a crucial part in human lives, and the curious history of nostalgia. No mention was made of the human spirit in relation to ageing, mortality and memory but, as a scientific discourse, it made for challenging listening and an engaging 45-minute programme.’ You can listen to it here.
