Welcome to a new Southampton Anna Chaplain in the city team

A warm welcome to Sally Ducellier, the latest person to be commissioned to serve as an Anna Chaplain with the Caraway* charity in Southampton.  She was commissioned at St James Road Methodist Church on Sunday October 20 during the main service.

Sally tells us that she grew up on the Isle of Wight, trained as a nurse in Kent, moved to Southampton in 1983 and has been there ever since!

In her professional life, she worked in nursing homes and hospitals before side-stepping to work in the community with people with learning disabilities. 'I have always been a people person', she says.

Waverley Abbey College

In 2018, Sally trained to be a funeral celebrant and then in 2023 started a course in contemporary chaplaincy through Waverley Abbey College.

The college's website says Waverley, near Farnham, Surrey, is 'the largest provider of Counselling and Chaplaincy training for Christians in the UK.'

'This transformed my life spiritually. Through my placements in Methodist homes, Southampton General Hospital and the Anna Chaplaincy in Lordshill, I finally found my niche and where I had been called to be.'

'Fellow Anna Chaplain and incoming Chair of Caraway Esther Clift led the commissioning and Margaret Hague and my minister Stephen Robinson prayed for me and Esther anointed me with oil. There were six Anna chaplains supporting me on the day, including Juliette Hooper who is due to be commissioned shortly.'

Caraway offers Chaplaincy and Dementia Services for Older People in Southampton.
