Prayers for peace in times of war and unrest:
In these days, when there are so many parts of the world experiencing the devastation of war, unrest and conflict, many people of all ages will be feeling overwhelmed by a sense of loss; an experience that can ‘snowball’ as it gathers up previous experience of loss and bereavement.
These are anxious times, but particularly so for many older people, as they might recall with great clarity what it means to have lived through, and perhaps served in, World War II. Some might express real fear as to what is happening around the globe now.
For many Anna Chaplains around the UK, Remembrance Day and Remembrance services are key ‘touchpoints’ for those whom they accompany. In the past, we have featured a variety of resources. This year, we signpost ideas offered freely by the Salvation Army. They have navigated sensitively the combination of loss and grief of many, with a prayer-full focus upon working for peace and reconciliation. A wide range of sermon ideas, music, readings and videos are offered here, including a video of a wonderful dance, to an adaptation of ‘The Last Post’.
‘The photographs of knitted poppies come from my own church in Birmingham', says Ministry Lead Debbie Ducille. ‘They offer a beautiful, practical expression of remembrance, loss and hope, created by our local community.’
